The Ocean Institute field trip is one of our most anticipated events of the year, and it’s an experience you definitely won’t want your student to miss!
The marine mammal program aboard the R/V Sea Explorer allows students to investigate the natural history of our local marine mammals. Dolphins, whales, seals, and sea lions are the focus of this exciting voyage on the open ocean! Students investigate the ecosystem of our local marine mammals using scientific tools like a benthic grab sampler and a plankton net. Students will discuss the types of marine mammals they saw and learn the differences among them through artifacts, sounds, and images.
